Please help us preserve our 1785 House and grounds for all to enjoy! Gifts have enabled us to protect and improve the house, replace the roof and the inefficient heating and cooling and electrical systems, replace the front steps and the eaves; we’ve repainted the interior and exterior of the house and are now in the process of re-paining the exterior again. We’ve repaired warped leaking window frames and a damaged ceiling, and even restored a number of pieces of antique furniture.
Although public access to had to remain limited during the pandemic, things at Moorefields have gotten back to normal in the past few months. We were happy to host our Spring Wildflower Hike and Bird Walk this past spring, and to open to the house and grounds on Last Sundays during the summer. The Bluegrass Festival happened on a beautiful October afternoon – our best ever! Plans are underway now for another great year.
While were closed, we didn’t stop working. With the house and grounds in better shape, we’ve been excited to be able to increase our efforts to dig into the past with archeological and other research into the lives of the people who lived and worked at the site in the past. In May we will be inviting the public to see what the team of archaeologists uncover.
